Department of Computer Science
1. Course Offered: B.Sc (Computer Science) (Aided Course).
2. History of the Department:
The B.Sc. Computer Science Course was started in the year 1987-88. Since then, the Department has produced around 500(17 batches) Computer Science graduates who are well placed in India & Abroad. The Department has been producing excellent results over a period of 19 years.The Department has been successfully functioning with a well equipped Computer Laboratory, Electronics Laboratory and a Department Library. The Department has adequate number of rooms to accommodate 150 students and 4 faculty members.
To prepare the students to manage the hardware and software components in a computer independently and to be a programmer, to take up higher studies in Computer Science/Application and teacher training streams.
4. Eligibility for admission:
Candidates should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Government of Tamil Nadu or any other Examinations accepted by the syndicate as equivalent there to with Mathematics, Computer Science as one of the subjects.
5. Duration: The students shall undergo the prescribed course of study for a period of three academic years.(six semesters).

7. Course Content:
The B.Sc. Computer Science syllabus has been updated every three years by the Board of studies for Computer Science of Madurai Kamaraj University. At present there are 8 Language papers, 20 Major Computer Theory papers & 10 Computer Practical papers.

Computer Organization, Computer Algorithm, Data Structures, Microprocessor & Assembly Language programming, Software Engineering, Computer Graphics, Computer Network, System Software, Operating System, RDBMS, C, C++, Java, HTML,Visual Basic, Numerical Methods, Statistics,etc.
Major Practical Papers:C, C++, Assembly Language, Digital Electronics, Visual Basic, HTML, JAVA, ORACLE, UNIX, VB.NET, etc.,

The Department staff are guiding M.Phil (Computer Science) scholars of various universities.
The Department conducts a One Day Inter Collegiate Academic and Cultural festival “CYBER HILLS” every year to extract the hidden talents of the young Computer scientists.

Dr. V.K. Vijayakumar is the Head of the Department which has four faculties (1+3). All members are M.Phil. qualified. Two members are pursuing Ph.D.
67% of male students and 33% of female students get enrolled in course. Students from local and neighbouring areas (in and around Madurai) join in our course.
There is no drop out. 84.8% is the average success rate for the last five years.
Students are given guest lecturers in the smart class room. Most of the classes are engaged using LCD Projector with Lap Top Computers.Every teacher is engaged in counselling of students. According to the college system, every teacher has to look after 20 students in each class. Students’ records are maintained. The internal marks and external marks are entered.
One paper has been published by one of the faculty members. Placement Cell of the college gives all the notices and brochures to the department for circulation among the students. In the last year, 15 students have got placement in the leading IT companies like Wipro, Infosys and TCS.
Many studentshave been selected in the job fair conducted in the college during the year 2010-2011.Students are given opportunities to take seminar on general topics. Students participate in the Charles Babbage Computer Association activities every year. Students are involved in the celebration of religious functions like Pongal, Golu, Thirupavai to create awareness among the students and maintain our tradition and culture.
Dr. T.D. Venkateswaran has co-ordinated three day ICT programme starting from 29.09.2011.
