1. Courses offered:
The department offers UG & PG Commerce with Computer Application.
2. History of the Department:
The B.Com programme was started in the year 1994 and B.Com with Computer Application programme in 2000 and M.Com with Computer Application in 2003 and has produced a number of post graduates who are well placed in various fields.
To introduce job oriented courses in the succeeding years keeping in mind the need of the times. To impact the Knowledge of Computer and skill to the students who pursue these programmes.
4. Eligibility for Admission:
Candidates who passed the Higher Secondary Examination of the Government of Tamil Nadu with Accountancy, Commerce, Economics and Business Mathematics or Computer Science subjects or equivalent examinations recognised by the syndicate of the Madurai Kamaraj University.
Candidates must have passed the Under Graduate Degree programme in any one of the subjects of commerce, corporate secretaryship and business administrations recognised by the syndicate of the Madurai Kamaraj University or as equivalent thereto.
5. Duration of the Course:
The duration of the course is three academic years comprising of 6 semesters with two semesters in each academic year.

6. Course Content:
The course contains important commerce subjects such as Financial Accounting, Income-tax, Entrepreneurship, Cost accounting, Statistics, Business Law and Business Application Programming, PC Software & DTP, VB, Multimedia are computer subjects & NME subjects.
The course comprises important commerce subjects such as Quantitative Techniques, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Overseas Marketing, Strategic Management and Client Server Computing, DBMS, Introduction to Information Technology, Web Programming are computer subjects with laboratory facilities.
7. Learning Resources:
The department has a well equipped library with books and journals of well-known authors and renowed publishing houses. The goal is to provide ample resources on the campus so that they can be supplemented with additional information other than their course work. The library has more than 1800 commerce books in UG library and 250 books in PG library and 300 computer subject books.
We have computer facilities with internet access for the students to this helps the students to get further details of the latest technologies and information about the subjects.
The students are being taught by using the latest technology (OHP) during the computer lab classes. The traditional methods are being followed to teach the students in the class room. Many of our department staff are accessing the internet and sharing the updated information with the students in their class hours.

Prof. T.K.Ravichandran is acting as the Head of the Department and 9 staff members are working in the department. Three have got registered for Ph.D. This department is offering B.Com., B.Com with CA., and M.Com with CA.
Studentsjoining in B.Com and M.Com courses have average academic records in their qualified examinations. Students from local and neighbouring areas (in and around Madurai) join in our course.
These courses were revised in 2008. After introduction of autonomous system in our college, the syllabus was revised this year. There is a library with 2360 books. Books are added to the general and department libraries. LCD projector facility is available with the department.
Slow learners are identified and remedial classes are conducted. Special attention is given to those students for their improvement. Remedial classes have been conducted for our B.Com students.
Prof. K.K. Vijayakumar and Prof. E.R. Kavitha are acting as NSS programme officers. Generally students are involved in all the extension activities of the college
Students are assessed through internal tests, assignments, seminars, quiz programmes and the class tests are also conducted periodically for the students.
Placement Cell of the college gives all the notices and brochures to the department for circulation among the students. Guest lectures and Seminars conducted by the Department motivate the students to prepare for competitive examinations and face the interview.
One faculty member has been awarded Ph.D degree during this period. Industrial visit has been made by the students to Parle-G at Kappalur. Uniform Dress code has been implemented for the students on Monday and Friday every week. Our department has formed Dollar Association for the benefit of students. Spoken English classes are conducted during the leisure hours.
The department has planned to conduct national seminar and apply for minor projects.
