2. History of the Department: The B.Sc degree course was started in the year 2000 in Sourashtra College, Madurai -4
3. Eligibility for Admission: The candidate should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Board of Government of Tamil Nadu.
4. Duration of the Course:
The duration of the course for B.Sc( Information Technology ) is three academic years comprising six semesters with two semesters in each academic year.

Part I : Tamil/Hindi/Sanskrit 2 semesters
Part II : English 4 semesters
Part III : Major – Theory Papers

Programming in C and C++,, Data Structures, Computer Organization, Multimedia Technologies, Software Engineering, Oracle and SQL, Visual Programming ,Operating System, Java Programming,

The Department staff are guiding M.Phil (Computer Science) scholars of various Universities.
The Department conducts a One Day Inter Collegiate Academic and Cultural festival “TECHVISTA ” every year to extract the hidden talents of the young Computer scientists.

Prof. T.S.B. Arunprasath is acting as the Head of the Department which has 3 faculty members. One staff has completed M.Phil. Two have completed their M.B.A. Degree.
Most of the students are from the Tamil medium. 90% of male students and 10% of female students get enrolled in our course. Students from local and neighbouring areas (in and around Madurai) join in our course.
After introduction of autonomous system in our college, the syllabus was revised this year.
The department maintains a small library with useful books to study modern computer languages and softwares.
Every year books are added to the department library and modern softwares are being purchased to impart the knowledge to the students.
In addition to conventional class room teaching, Power Point presentation and OHP presentation are used to handle classes and seminars.
The tutor ward system is followed and students are benefited by this. We also provide them academic and personal counselling with the knowledge of their parents.
Our staff members are acting as members of Board of studies in colleges and university. Staff members are guiding the students to take up their projects.
Students are assessed through internal tests, assignments, seminars, quiz programmes and the class tests are also conducted periodically for the students.
Placement Cell of the college gives all the notices and brochure to the department for circulation among the students. Guest lectures and Seminars conducted by the Department motivate the students to prepare for competitive examinations.
Students are given opportunities to take seminar on general topics and syllabus oriented topics and they take part in the association activities.
Coaching classes are arranged for poor students and Spoken English Classes are attended by the students.
The department has planned to initiate to get new MoUs. and to conduct National Workshop and Seminars.
